If you have ever fancied being a pantomime star then here’s your chance.
One of the Fylde Coast’s favourite funnymen Tom Bright is looking for talented locals to take part in Jack and the Beanstalk, a pantomime he has written and will be directing, producing and starring in at Thornton Little Theatre in December.
“The idea started when the theatre manager Karen Roberts asked if I could direct a panto there for the first time ,” said Tom. “Then she asked if I would be in it and the next thing I knew I was writing it and producing it too.”
But the resident Legends compere on Central Pier is already a panto veteran and says he is looking forward to being in his first one for several years.
“I’m usually over in Legends in Leeds so can’t do full theatre runs but this year the Leeds season ends just before this panto begins so it’s the best of both worlds for me,” says Tom (right) who will be playing Dame Fanny Trott.
But now he’s looking for a cast to join him and open auditions are being held at Thornton Little Theatre this Saturday and Sunday.
“It’s amazing how much talent there is locally and we are looking for the cream of the crop to take part in what will be a properly produced show,” said Tom.
Roles up for grabs include Fleshcreep, Fairy, Jack, Simon, the King, the Princess and the Giant.
“We also want a front and back of the cow but the audition for them might have to be a bit different – there’s not quite so much talking to do!” said Tom.
Dancers and juveniles will be recruited from the theatre’s own training school, he said.
“It’s the real deal and we are taking it very seriously ,” says Tom, who will starting rehearsals at weekends as soon as possible. “It’s something that hasn’t been tried before so we want to make it a real success and hopefully an annual event.
Auditions take place at Thornton Little Theatre from 1 to 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Just turn up. A casting sheet will be provided. The pantomime will run from December 20 to 31 with performances daily at 2 and 7pm.
