A Blackpool Pleasure Beach contractor is looking forward to A Grand Day Out after his work on the attraction’s newest ride landed him with a top award nomination.

Rushworth Painting Contractors spent six months painting interior scenes and the external façade of Wallace & Gromit’s Thrill-O-Matic, which opened at the 42-acre attraction last year.

The Poulton business is now one of a handful of painting and decorating firms up for the Commercial Award in the Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) Awards in London in June.

Wallace & Gromit’s Thrill-O-Matic is the result of collaboration between Blackpool Pleasure Beach and creators Aardman and is the only themed family ride in the world based on the lovable characters from the short films.

Opened by creator Nick Park on April 24, the ride has welcomed thousands of guests aboard Wallace’s slippers and takes a trip around the most famous scenes from A Grand Day Out to A Matter of Loaf and Death.

A team of six was commissioned by Blackpool Pleasure Beach engineer and projects director Steve Hughes to carry out the work on the £5.25m attraction.

Chris Rushworth, from the firm, said: “We are delighted to be shortlisted for this award as it’s always an honour to be recognised for your work on a project you have enjoyed.

“We have worked on a number of rides and attractions at Blackpool Pleasure Beach but to work on a brand new ride was a great experience. We are very proud of the work on Thrill-O-Matic, it was a very detailed and intricate job but it looks great.”

Chris and the rest of the team will find out whether they have won the award on June 24.

Amanda Thompson, of tyhe Pleasure Beach, said: “We are delighted with Wallace & Gromit’s Thrill-O-Matic, it has become a well-loved ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. A lot of hard work has gone into making it fun for all the family.

“We wish Chris and his team all the best.”
