Las Vegas legend Buddy Greco says he can’t wait to take to the stage of Sands Venue on Blackpool Central Promenade tonight.
Although now in his mid-80s, he says he still loves performing and that his Blackpool booking will bring back memories of his days (and nights) in the 1960s at the original Sands in Las Vegas.
“I’ve heard really good things about the Blackpool Sands from other artistes and can’t wait to see the place for myself,” says Buddy, who has now re-located with his wife Lezlie Anders from the USA to Southend.
“I love the way of life you have in the UK,” he says. “People always ask why Southend, but I say why not? It’s convenient and it’s friendly and I’ve been made very welcome there.”
Over the 60 years he has been performing in the UK, he says he has made various trips to Blackpool and says he is glad to be back for the first of two concerts at Sands.
“This one will be me and the big band plus stories from across the decades, and I’ll be answering any questions about the Rat Pack years,” he says. “My September show will be me plus Lezlie’s amazing tribute to Peggy Lee.”
With 72 albums behind him and “another one on the way” he says he doesn’t have a problem finding new material – and never tires of performing.
“I never get bored and I work because I love it and not because of the money,” he says. “It’s an honour to keep my kind of music alive, and it’s great seeing fans of all ages at my shows.”
n Remaining tickets for tonight are £34.99 including a three course meal. Details from (01253) 625262.
