The spring season of guest nights at Garstang Unplugged starts tomorrow with the first visit of Brooks Williams to the popular gathering.

He plays a fiery guitar, has a rich and silky voice writes hook-laden songs and is hailed as of the most commanding performers on the acoustic roots and blues scene – as well as being ranked one of the world’s top acoustic guitarists.

Born in Statesboro, Georgia USA, Williams’ southern roots took hold of his music when he moved to Boston Massachusetts USA in his late teens.

It was there, in the little clubs and bars of New York and New England, that he developed his sound.

He’s honed his songs and performances, playing everywhere from Dallas to London, Anchorage, Toronto and Detroit to New York.

He has gigged with Taj Mahal, John Hammond, Paul Jones, Billy Bragg, Little Feat, Maria Muldaur, Shawn Colvin, and Leo Kottke, to name but a few.

It’s a classy affair from start to finish, straddling the roots music boundaries of blues, folk and classic Americana.

Local fingerpicker Stuart Swarbrick will be opening the night.

It’s all at the Kenlis Arms, Ray Lane, Barnacre.

Tickets are £10 from Garstang Unplugged’s website, telephone (01995) 602795, or on the door.
