This year’s Illuminations headline act – The Script – have promised the biggest and best Switch-On party yet.
Glen Power, drummer for the Irish chart-toppers, whose frontman is Danny O’Donoghue of TV’s The Voice, said the band can’t wait to play at the event.
He added: “We are very excited to be coming to perform in Blackpool.
“It’s such a massive, massive honour.
“We can’t wait. Everyone is familiar with Blackpool Illuminations and to be given the opportunity is amazing.
“(Tower Festival Headland) looks like a fantastic venue too – we’ve never done anything like this before performing on the coast and to be doing it right in front of the Irish Sea is great.”
The band will play for an hour and a half at the Switch-On extravaganza on Friday, August 30, with support coming from singer Eliza Doolittle.
Glen added: “What makes Blackpool so special is probably the people – we’ve been to the town a few times before and what stands out is the atmosphere in the crowd – everyone is in great spirits.
“It’s also somewhere you never feel like you really want to leave.
“There’s the amusements, the rides, the piers – it feels like a holiday within a holiday.
“We really want to make Blackpool rock.”
The celebrity who will flick the switch to turn on the world-renowned Lights is still to be revealed, while the acts to appear on the Saturday night slot are to be confirmed.
Tickets for the concert go on sale tomorrow at 9am.
They are available from Visit Blackpool, See Tickets, Ticketmaster and Gigs and Tours – priced at £34.
