The stirring sound of one of the finest male voice choirs in Wales comes to Fleetwood on Saturday, when the internationally-acclaimed Rhos Orpheus Male Choir from North Wales perform at the Marine Hall.
They will join the Blackpool Male Voice Choir in a joint concert called We’ll Keep a Welcome.
Richard Huxley, Concert Secretary of the Rhos Orpheus, said: “The concert came about after the Blackpool choir asked us for information about a piece of music on one of our old LP records. From that initial enquiry we began to put together the idea of a joint concert and we thought We’ll Keep a Welcome was an appropriate title.”
In the concert, each choir will be singing well-known items from the male voice repertoire, including songs from the shows, and the Rhos Orpheus has promised to include some favourite Welsh pieces.
There’s also the chance to hear both choirs singing together, though maybe not in Welsh!
The Blackpool Male Voice Choir was formed in 1923 in the heart of Blackpool at Raikes Parade Methodist Church and can boast Alfie Boe as their patron.
Tickets for Saturday’s performance, priced £8 (£7 concessions) – which starts at 7.30pm – are available from www.wyretheatres.co.uk or (01253) 887693.
