CHART topper Tinchy Stryder is set to bring thousands flocking to Blackpool as he turns on the resort’s Christmas lights.

The multi-award winning star will join the crowds at the Houndshill Shopping Centre on Saturday, November 19 as part of a special event organised by VisitBlackpool and Lancashire commercial radio station Rock FM.

X Factor finalist and Chorley soldier Jonjo Kerr, Wigan rock band Boomin and former Neighbours star Sam Clark will also perform.

MOBO award winner, Tinchy, whose hits include Number 1, his collaboration with N-Dubz, and Take Me Back, is currently about to embark on his nationwide Rollercoaster tour.

He is regarded as one of hottest music stars around and set to be a sure-fire hit with younger audiences.

Coun Graham Cain, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for tourism and culture said: “We are delighted to be able to welcome a world class superstar to Blackpool this year to switch on the Christmas Lights.

“This is a fantastic event to launch the Christmas season and we look forward to welcoming many visitors who choose to shop here or just enjoy the fantastic attractions on offer.”

VisitBlackpool is hoping the event – which begins at 2pm – will provide the resort with another switch on to remember after comedian Keith Lemon flicked the switch on this year’s annual Golden Mile Illuminations.

A spokesman said: “The day is guaranteed to ooze festive family fun and get visitors into the holiday spirit in a way only Blackpool knows how.

“The town centre will be transformed into a winter wonderland of sparkling lights as the town welcomes shoppers to the festivities as streets are lit with brilliant chandeliers and icicles creating a marvellous atmosphere of excitement and wonder.

“The streets will be bathed in brightly coloured energy-efficient LEDs to add a touch of magic to visitors’ Christmas shopping trips.

“With the fantastic choice of attractions, shows and events happening over the festive period, Blackpool is definitely the place to be.”
