A slice of Soho has opened on Queen Street in Blackpool.
Housed in the former Septembers site, two of the venue’s three floors have opened, with the third to follow in February.
The club, cabaret bar, and restaurant is the latest venture for former pro footballer Mark Tivey, and is the seventh he has opened in 17 years, he says.
With several in Sweden and one in Spain, this is his first English project.
“I feel there’s a market here for what I want to do,” he said. “We decided on a fairly soft opening, and just let the word spread.”
Full of optimism for the resort’s future, Mark says Soho is different to anything else in the resort.
The ground floor operates with party DJs, the first floor is more of a cabaret venue with themed nights, student night and the like, and the top floor will re-open as a restaurant in February.
He and Soho’s manager Ged Hamilton, who spent several years next door at Roxy’s, say they are proud of the new venue. “It’s one of the nicest buildings in Blackpool and there is so much potential,” says Mark. “I think Blackpool is the perfect place for an investment like this.”
Local girl Sophie Coulon is supervisor on the cabaret floor, and says she is confident it will prove popular with performing arts students and anyone wanting a showcase.
