AN AWARD-winning singer is set to light up Blackpool Tower Festival Headland this summer as the Olympic Torch makes its way into the resort.
Coca-Cola has announced it will be bringing Mercury Prize nominee Katy B to Blackpool on June 22 as part of a special celebration to mark the route of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.
The free family event will see the 22-year-old R&B and UK garage star take to the stage at the Headland and Comedy Carpet. And she is very much looking forward to her visit.
She said: “I can’t wait to help spread the excitement in Blackpool as the Olympic Torch makes its historic journey around the country.”
The singer has recorded a song with Mark Ronson called Anywhere in the World as part of the Olympic Games campaign.
Coca-Cola is working with the London Organising Committee and local authorities across the country to bring 61 free music events to different part of the country.
James Williams, director, Olympic Torch Relay, said: “We know music brings people together in celebration and we have a fantastic opportunity to extend the magic and excitement of London 2012 to every corner of the UK.
“We are taking some of the nation’s most exciting musical talent on the road with the aim of getting Blackpool and the rest of the UK moving to the beat in celebration.”
Four Special City Celebrations will take place in Cardiff, Glasgow Leeds and Birmingham in June.
There will be a star-studded finale in London’s Hyde Park on July 26, the day before the Opening Ceremony.
