An afternoon of top class classical music and one of the best up and coming young trumpet players in the country... what more could you want?
That is the plan for Sunday when Blackpool Symphony Orchestra stages its latest concert.
The orchestra, founded in 1920 and one of the oldest amateur orchestras in the country, is performing a rousing programme of Russian music including Shostakovich’s popular Festive Overture and Khatachurian’s Adagio from Spartacus, famous from classic TV series The Onedin Line.
They will be joined by highly-rated trumpeter Hannah Mackenzie.
Helen Harrison, orchestra’s conductor, said: “It’s a celebration of brass which brings a full bloodied Russian sound to the occasion.”
It starts at Blackpool Sixth Form College at 2.30pm. Tickets are £8, under 18s get in free.
