Star DJ Pat Sharp is to kick start this year’s Lytham Proms with a two-hour set on the festival weekend’s opening night.

The TV and radio broadcaster, who has notched up a Sony gold award and seven hit singles during his 30-year career, is the latest big name to be signed up by promoters Cuffe and Taylor.

He will set the scene for a line up, which also includes Olly Murs headlining on the Sunday night, with Rick Astley, The Real Thing, Belinda Carlisle, Toyah, Curiosity Killed the Cat, Bananarama and T’Pau entertaining the crowds on the opening Friday night.

Opera star Alfie Boe will headline a spectacular Last Night of The Proms concert on the Saturday night in what has been dubbed the Fylde Coast’s biggest ever party

This year’s event on Lytham Green, from August 3 to 5 is just weeks after the eyes of the world are on the resort for the Open Golf – will see chart-topper Olly Murs appear in his only North West gig this summer for the festival’s finale.

The winner of the Fylde’s Got Talent competition will also perform as a support act for Olly on the Sunday night.

English soprano Laura Wright will be special guest at Alfie Boe’s Last Night of The Proms show and Pat Sharp will get the crowd rocking ahead of Friday night’s Here and Now, The Very Best of the 80s concert.

Pat, who currently presents the Weekend Breakfast show across the UK on national station Smooth Radio, is also a regular on TV and appeared in last year’s I’m A Celebrity – Get Me Out Of Here on ITV1.

He will be performing his set between 5.30 and 7.30pm to warm up the crowd.

Peter Taylor, director of St Annes-based promoters Cuffe and Taylor, said: “Pat is one of the best known DJs in the UK and has a reputation for getting the party going with a mixture of fun and great music, so we are delighted to announce him as the latest addition to our Lytham Proms line-up.

“Here and Now, The Very Best of the 80’s is a great way to open Lytham Proms Festival Weekend 2012.

“The line-up is terrific and it promises to be a night of fun and dancing.”
