Poulton’s Old Town Hall Tavern is to host a monthly folk and roots music night.
Blackpool’s loss is Poulton’s gain with Gillespie’s Folk Club now setting up shop in the Market Place venue’s first floor function room and moving from a weekend slot to a Thursday night one.
The club, hosted by the duo Anna and Chris Walton – aka Gillespie’s Rhythm – is launched this week with Jaywalkers, BBC Young Folk Award finalists from 2009 headlining.
The last few months have seen Jaywalkers cement their place as one of the most exciting and entertaining young bands working on the British folk scene.
Creating a unique sound based on their collective and individual musical backgrounds, the band takes influence from folk, bluegrass, country and western swing music in the form of virtuosic instrumentals, three part harmony and occasional slap bass.
Add good humour, tasteful arrangements and exceptional musicianship to the mix and they are guaranteed to put a smile on most faces.
Admission is £5, half price for students with a valid student card. Doors open from 8pm for an 8.30pm start.
