Singer song-writer Joan Armatrading may have a wealth of award nominations and 20 albums to her name, but this Sunday she heads to Blackpool on her first solo tour – and last major tour.
Joan’s music ranges from jazz to soul, blues to pop, and she’s known as a craftsman with a distinctive vocal and skilled musicianship.
“I will never retire but this will be the last major tour that I will undertake,” she said.
“For the first time these concerts will be me solo on stage playing the guitar and piano and singing.
“I want these concerts to be a special lively interactive one-to-one experience.
“I have absolutely enjoyed the last 42 years of performances but now, with my final major tour, I want to capture a unique memory for both myself and the audience.”
The three times Grammy-nominated, double Brit nominated and winner of a coveted Ivor Novello Award, Joan Armatrading will stage a two-hour show of highlights from the past four decades of her career, utilising various guitars and playing techniques, and a piano.
Despite reports of her having cancelled some shows this week, due to illness, the Blackpool date is still due to go ahead.
Andrew Howard, Grand Theatre marketing manager, hailed the ‘never to be repeated’ occasion.
He said: “We’re delighted to welcome the highly- acclaimed musician Joan Armatrading.
“With many impressive accolades to her name and a rich and lengthy career in the music industry, this really will be a night of outstanding music and performance – and your last chance to ever see such rare talent perform.”
* Joan Armatrading, Grand Theatre, Blackpool, Sunday, 7.30pm. Tickets cost £31.50 from (01253) 290190.
The Grand’s summer season show Puttin’ On The Ritz continues, with performances every day except Sunday.
Fronted by former Strictly Come Dancing professionals, Katya Virshilas and Jared Murillo with Britain’s Got Talent finalist Becky O’Brien, the show is an ‘all-singing, all-dancing feel-good production’ celebrating the golden era of the Hollywood musical.
