Fresh from their success at the Illuminations Switch On and with their new single Wings at the top of the charts, the hottest new girl band in the country Little Mix are heading to Blackpool with their full show.
Last year’s X Factor winners have announced their debut UK tour for 2013, taking in 18 venues across the UK, including Blackpool Opera House on Saturday, February 9.
Signed to Syco Music, Little Mix have wasted no time in wowing live arenas and huge crowds on The X Factor Tour, at T4 On The Beach and as special guests on JLS’s 2012 summer tour.
Their debut headline tour follows the triumphant number one single Wings, which entered the charts yesterday, and their debut album, due for release in November.
Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards told Duke’s Diary before their Headlands appearance last Friday: “It’s so exciting that we’re about to go out on our first headlining tour! We’ve spent most of the year recording our album and we can’t wait to see our fans again. It was fun doing the X Factor tour and supporting other acts like JLS but it’s great knowing that this time people will be coming to see us as the headliners.
“We can’t wait for the tour to begin and it’s really an honour that people want to see us.”
By then their album will also more than likely topped the charts and it will be the first time they’ve performed the music in public.
“We are really proud of it because we have co-written quite a lot of it,” said Perrie. “We said all along we wanted to be involved in as many aspects of it as possible. It’s really important to us because it’s our name on the label.
“It’s the same with the tour – we’re not prepared to give people second best. They’ve worked hard for their money so it’s only right that we do the same” She admitted the idea of touring as headliners was a bit nerve wracking but added: “It’s the thought of it in advance but once we’ve got the first night over with I’m sure we’ll be fine. It would be more worrying if it was a solo tour but as a group we’ve all got each other to rely on. I love being in a group and it’s great that we all get on so well both and off the stage.”
Little Mix originally auditioned for the X Factor as solo performers.
Under the tutelage of judge and mentor Tulisa Contostavlos, Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall joined forces to become Little Mix, the X Factor’s first ever victorious group.
Having captured the hearts and minds of the nation the girls shot straight to number one with their debut single Cannonball.
Built on a strident soul and r’n’b flavoured rhythm and featuring vocal turns from each member, the current single Wings marks Little Mix out as a major new act. Tour tickets go one sale from Friday at 10am.
Other North dates are January 2 – Liverpool Echo 2 Arena (0844 8000 400) and January 6 – Manchester O2 Apollo (0844 477 7677).
