Tomorrow’s last of the autumn series of the Fylde Arts Midday Recitals at Poulton Methodist Church is being given by Laurie Ashworth (soprano) and John Gough (piano).
Laurie was born in Wigan and studied at the Royal Northern College of Music where she graduated with First Class honours in 2006.
In 2008 she also achieved her Master’s Degree with distinction and has since won many significant awards.
For the last 10 years she has specialised in concert and oratorio and is a highly sought after artist with an extensive repertoire. She has made numerous operatic appearances in this country and abroad and has frequently broadcast in the Friday Night is Music Night programmes on BBC Radio 4.
John Gough comes from Chester and enjoys a busy career as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician.
He has performed in many important venues, including the Wigmore Hall, the Purcell Room, St Martin’s-in-the-Fields and Carnegie Hall, New York.
He has frequently recorded for BBC TV, Radio 2, Radio 3, and Classic FM.
He is also a professor of piano at both the Royal Northern College of Music and Chetham’s School of Music.
This week’s programme includes a variety of songs by Purcell, Fauré, Chabrier, Mahler, Schumann, Michael Head and John Rutter plus miscellaneous piano solos.
The recital begins at 1pm and admission is £7 with £5 for Fylde Arts Members.
Hot lunches price £4 are available at the church from 11.30am onwards.
