Teenage piano star Lara Melda is the guest of North Fylde Music Circle next Friday in the new concert hall of the Blackpool Sixth Form College, starting at 7.30pm.
Lara, who won the much coveted 2010 BBC Young Musician of the Year competition has already started a successful career and has chosen a varied programme for Friday’s recital – Beethoven (Sonata in D minor Op.31:2 - Tempest); Rachmaninov (Prelude In D Op. 23:4, Prelude in A Op. 32:9, Etude Tableau in C minor Op. 33:2 and Etude Tableau in E Flat Op. 33:7); Debussy (Reflets dans l’eau, Minstrels); Messiaen (Le baiser de l’enfant-Jésus) and Chopin (Etude in C Sharp minor Op. 25:7, Etude in A Flat Op. 25:1 and Ballade No.1 in G minor Op. 23).
Lara Melda was awarded the coveted BBC title when she was just 16 performing Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No.2 with Vasily Petrenko and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales at the Wales Millenium Centre in Cardiff.
The performance was broadcast on BBC TWO and BBC Radio 3 and she was immediately invited to record the same work with the BBC Concert Orchestra for broadcast on BBC Radio 2.
Performances in the 2010/11 season included Mozart’s Piano Concerto with the English Chamber Orchestra, Grieg’s Piano Concerto with the Borusan Philharmonic Orchestra and the English Sinfonia and many other concerts for music societies throughout the UK.
More recent engagements have included recitals for the Antalya Piano Festival and Bogazici University, Turkey, as well as concertos by Mozart and Grieg with BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Sinfonia of Leeds, Academy Chamber Orchestra, Watford Philharmonic, and the Maidstone, Aylesbury, Royal Tunbridge Wells and Worthing Symphony Orchestras.
