The closing weeks of the UK tour of hit musical Wicked will take place in the North West.
More than 18 months after the tour opened to rave reviews at Manchester’s Palace Theatre, it opens at The Lowry, Salford Quays, on Wednesday, June 3 and runs until Saturday, July 25.
Wicked ‘tells the incredible untold story of the Witches of Oz’, the prequel of events which happen in Oz before Dorothy and Toto are whisked there by a tornado.
The Wicked cast is led by Ashleigh Gray as Elphaba and Emily Tierney as Glinda, with Chester-based ex-Brookside star Steven Pinder, as The Wizard/Dr Dillamond and Marylin Cutts as Madame Morrible.
It tells the story of ‘an unlikely but profound friendship between two sorcery students’, and how their ‘extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West’.
The Stephen Schwartz-penned show recently took the This Morning Audience Award at the 2015 Oliviers, and continues an open-ended run at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in London, where it is the tenth longest running show in the West End.
And it has spent more than 12 years playing to packed audiences in Broadway’s Gershwin Theatre.
