“Blondie didn’t make it until she was 40 – I’m 39 so I’ve still got time”.
So says Cheryl Montgomery, a woman whose passion for music and singing could never be doubted.
Along with song writing partner David Bilsborrow from Elswick, Cheryl – who performs under the name Lady Phenakite (phenakite being a crystal, for the uninitiated) – is having a late bash at hitting the big time.
“I’ve been writing songs and singing for years but it wasn’t until I met David last year that I have started to take it seriously and try and get somewhere,” she said.
“David made me believe in myself and in the last 12 months we’ve written more than 30 songs. We’re going to start gigging next year and we’re planning to go on Britain’s Got Talent.
“The aim is to make it to the top – why aim for anything less?”
Cheryl, who went to St Mary’s School and lives in Bispham, released her first song, Chillout, in February to good reviews on Youtube. The follow up is called Stand Together, with Cheryl donating all profits from the song to Trinity Hospice.
“My daughter works as a volunteer there and they do brilliant work,” she said.
The song – recorded at Sound Loft Studio in Leigh – can be downloaded on iTunes, Amazon, CD baby and Google and is available now.
