Soap and soul star Craig Charles is heading to Blackpool to spin his tunes.
Bootleg Social is to host the DJ and Coronation Street actor tomorrow night, heralding a new range of entertainment on offer.
The Craig Charles Funk And Soul Club will move into the Topping Street ‘alternative late night bar’ for the event, with doors opening at 7pm, though to 3am, including support from Breaktone 5 and SoulFood Cowbell Radio DJs.
Bootleg Social co-owner Gareth Lapsins, 28, said: “Craig Charles is a great booking for us and we are excited to see a busy dance floor with some amazing music.
“This will hopefully be the first major act of many to be announced. We are keen to bring some life into the Blackpool nightlife.”
Craig has been on BBC 6 Music for the past decade in their primetime Saturday night slot, earning himself a place as one of the UK’s best loved funk and soul DJs, alongside his career as an actor in Red Dwarf and Coronation Street, as well as presenting Robot Wars.
“When BBC 6Music asked me to do a radio show I only had one condition, it has to be a funk and soul show otherwise I wasn’t interested,” he said.
And so the Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show came in to being, right at the very beginning of Radio 6Music way back in March 2002.
Since 2009, Criag’s been on the road with his own Funk and Soul Club, a night of ‘dancefloor stomping funk and soul music’ in clubs up and down the country, with residencies at Manchester’s Band on the Wall and London’s The Jazz Café and a series of festival dates. Alongside the his own unique performances, Craig brings with him ‘storming’ guests from the funk and soul world.
