THIS checkout supervisor will swap the supermarket aisle for the big stage when he appears in front of more than 6,000 people at this weekend’s Lytham Proms.
For 22-year-old Kurtis Reid is supporting chart-topper Olly Murs on the fantastic final evening of the three-day music festival.
West End sensation Diana Vickers completes the line-up as the Fylde coast’s biggest summer party reaches a climax.
Kurtis, from South Shore, got his big break after winning this year’s Fylde’s Got Talent competition.
He is switching from day job at Morrison’s on Squires Gate Lane, for the red carpet at Lytham Proms and is hard at work rehearsing for his four-song, 20-minute set which will include one of his own compositions.
The former Palatine High School and Blackpool Sixth Form student, studied music performance, song-writing and recording at Leeds Metropolitan University. He has been performing since he was a child – but this will be by far the biggest audience he has been in front of.
He said: “I’ve been working pretty much non-stop since I heard I was appearing at the Proms and I’m really excited about it.
“I’ve been singing since I was a small child and I’d love to make music my career. I’ve been waiting for a really great opportunity like this. Hopefully, the Proms will be a giant stepping-stone for me.
“My whole family is looking forward to the evening and I’ll have a big group of friends cheering me on from the audience. I think half of Morrison’s will be down on Lytham Green on the night.
“Being on the same bill as Olly Murs is amazing, and meeting him is going to be one of the real highlights of the night for me.”
Peter Taylor, director of St Annes-based promoters Cuffe and Taylor, added: “We’re delighted a talented local performer like Kurtis is appearing at the Proms.
“He has a fantastic voice and we are sure this appearance will be the first of many as his career takes off. I’m also sure the audience will give him a fantastic Fylde coast welcome.”
