After making her debut as a personal assistant named Jemima Corey in a scene in the Street’s Underworld factory earlier this month, Katey will appear on screen again tomorrow evening – and is thrilled to be part of one of the biggest shows on TV.

The 34-year-old former student of Lytham St Annes Technology and Performing Arts College took a break from acting to bring up her young son Austin.

But she’s now back in the business after her agent landed her the role on Corrie.

She recorded scenes either side of Christmas on the Media City set at Salford Quays and has been sworn to secrecy over the storyline. But she said the experience was ‘magical’ and she cried with happiness when agent Tracey Bell of Red Door Management rang to say she had got the part.

“I just squealed with delight when the call came,” said Katey, who is married to Fylde Rugby Club winger and prolific try scorer Oli Brennand.

“It’s only a little guest role to most, but to me it’s the biggest deal. It’s Coronation Street, the most iconic soap in British history and I can say I’ve been on it.

“The whole experience at Coronation Street was magical, from the initial audition through to hanging out with Kate Ford, who plays Tracy Barlow, in the Green Room. I’ll never forget it.

“It’s extremely difficult to keep dreams alive especially once children come in to the picture, it just goes to show that regardless of age or situation there are still opportunities out there for us all - the key is to not give up believing.”

The path from the Fylde coast to the famous cobbles of Coronation Street is a well-trodden one.

Katey Brennand is following in the footsteps of a few more well-known faces.

When the soap aired a special 60th anniversary live episode in 2015, there were two Fylde coast actresses among the cast.

Former Hodgson Academy pupil Lucy Fallon appeared as troubled teen Bethany Platt. More recently her character has been involved in a harrowing storyline tackling the issue of child grooming.

Meanwhile, Hayley Tamaddon, from Bispham, made her exit from the soap in the 2015 live episode after two years. She had previously appeared in ITV’s Emmerdale too.

Coronation Street is on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm tomorrow.
