Comedian Jason Manford is to preview his next national tour with a gig in Lytham.
Jason will play the Lowther Pavilion on Thursday, June 6 next year – and tickets go on sale tomorrow at a bargain basement £12.50 each.
The gig is part of a warm-up schedule for his 2013 tour, which starts later in June and will last six months, covering more than 100 UK dates and culminating in a performance at the 18,000-capacity MEN Arena shortly before Christmas.
Tim Lince, acting chairman of the Lowther Trust, said everyone at the venue, which staged its first comedy festival last February, is delighted with one of the Lowther’s biggest-ever signings.
“This is a unique opportunity to see a star comedian close to home at a price that can be afforded by all lovers of comedy,” said Tim.
Tickets are limited to four per person.
Salford-born Jason has become one of the country’s top comedy names since being nominated for the Perrier Award in Edinburgh in 2005.
He made his TV debut on the Channel 4 panel show Eight Out of 10 Cats before becoming a team captain on the show in 2007 and had a brief spell as a main presenter on BBC TV’s The One Show after the departure of Adrian Chiles to ITV.
The 31-year-old funnyman has had a busy time since he was last on the road.
After his opera singing turn saw him emerge the winner on ITV1’s Born To Shine, he joined Fleetwood’s Alfie Boe – a star of last year’s Lytham Proms – on tour prior to a well-received run in the West End hit musical Sweeney Todd.
However, he kept his comedy hand in with appearances on the TV panel shows QI (BBC Two), Big Fat Quiz of the Year (Channel 4) and Comedy World Cup (Channel 4). Jason said: “Some people might think I’ve had a career change what with all the opera and musical theatre I’ve been doing lately. Not a chance, I’m excited to be getting back to what I really love the most – stand up!”
Tickets for Jason’s gig at Lowther go on sale tomorrow from 9am and details are available from (01253) 794221.
