Familiar faces have been given a festive twist as a popular pier show prepares to take on Christmas for the very first time.
Central Pier’s Legends show embarks on a three-week run this Christmas – and producer Trevor Chance is confident the popular show will replicate its summer success.
Rod Stewart, George Michael, Elvis Presley and Freddie Mercury will take to the stage for the 12 performances, joined by a special cast of festive dancers.
And although its the first time the show has done a Winter run in Blackpool, it’s not the first time the format has been used to entertain Christmas parties. Mr Chance said: “I know it will work because we’ve done Christmas shows all over the place – from Dubai to up in Leeds.
“It’s completely tried and tested and the only reason we’ve not done it in Blackpool before is we’ve just not had time.
“People should expect the same thing (as the summer shows) – there’s nobody who doesn’t enjoy Legends. It’s great entertainment.”
All the acts performing in the Christmas shows have appeared on stage with Legends before, with Rob Hawthorn kicking off the night as Rod Stewart, Lee Garcia performing as George Michael, Chris Connor taking on Elvis Presley and Dean Richardson – who debuted in the summer cast of Legends – closing the show as the legendary Freddie Mercury.
As well as the performance, each night will also include a buffet with a disco following the show. Mr Chance said: “We have our core audience and we are thinking we will get small local business in – people who don’t want to go to a huge venue.”
With the end of shows on North Pier, Legends is now the only show still playing on Blackpool’s piers.
But Mr Chance said he didn’t welcome the end of competition and wanted to see everywhere in Blackpool thriving.
He added: “There’s only two good shows in Blackpool people come and see over and over again – Funny Girls and ourselves.
“We don’t want to be the only thing in Blackpool that’s any good, we want good stuff to come in and bring more people to town.”
The Christmas shows runs Wednesday – Saturday from November 30 to December 17. To book contact (01253) 629714.
