Fylde Coast based entertainer Keith Harris today told of his own cancer battle as he offered support to singer Joe Longthorne.
Joe has been diagnosed with throat cancer and is to begin his treatment next week.
He has been sent messages of support from a legion of showbiz pals including Keith , 66, who lives in Poulton.
Keith, world famous for his ventriloquism shows with sidekick Orville the Duck said he knows exactly what Joe is going through.
He himself has just been given the all clear after having treatment for spleen cancer, and he said the main thing was to remain positive and to keep on with the show.
He said: “I have a good idea of just how he’s feeling at the moment.
“It is a shock but you must keep thinking positively and carry on working when you can. I was not able to work for nine months after I had my spleen removed and the chemotherapy treatment.
“That was the worst thing, just being sat around, so it is important to think about those shows you have got coming up. I got the all clear eight weeks ago and have 68 shows booked now.”
He said when the cancer was discovered, doctors told him that he had just a year to live.
“During the operation I almost died. But after the operation and the chemotherapy which was hard, I am much better. I still get pins and needles in my foot which is a bit awkward.
“The doctors say the cancer probably won’t come back but the plan is to have a stem cell transplant.
“They say I will feel like a new man after that and hopefully that will do the trick.”
