Former Tremeloes member Chip Hawkes has been forced to drop out of his second planned Blackpool visit this year.

The chart topping band’s frontman had to cancel all his appearances in North Pier Theatre’s Cavern Club Revisited production this summer because of ill health, prompting the early closure of the show.

Now, because of continuing health problems he has had to abandon plans to appear in the 60s Gold show which is coming to Blackpool Opera House on Sunday, October 7.

His replacement is Steve Ellis, who sprang to fame as lead vocalist with Love Affair when they topped the charts with Everlasting Love. The rest of the bill remains unchanged as Gerry and the Pacemakers, PJ Proby and The Animals

A show spokesman said: “Steve Ellis is an equally popular and accomplished performer. We apologise for the late change, however it will be the same fantastic show as in previous years.”
