Poulton gets its own vodka revolution from tonight when the new look ground floor of The Grapevine opens its doors for the first time.

The town’s first customised cocktail bar has undergone its own transformation “revolution” to now lead the way with a wide range of vodkas, shots and other specialities – with a whole new look to the bar’s image.

“We were the first place to have a dedicated cocktail bar and where we went others followed,” says Darren Woodcock who has owned and run The Grapevine with his wife Abigail for almost four years.

“We thought it was time for a change and lead the way again with something new to the area.”

Inspired by the success of Revolution in Blackpool and elsewhere, they decided to re-brand the ground floor as The Grapevine Vodka Bar whilst retaining the more traditional approach upstairs.

“Since our major refurbishment 18 months ago we have been the only place in Poulton that can boast three bars on three floors,” said Darren.

The change of image has meant losing the daytime cafe service at least for the time being.

“The daytime footfall in Poulton has dropped dramatically over the years whereas the evening trade has blossomed,” he said. “This way we can concentrate on the bars and if necessary bring back a coffee service at some stage of the future.”

The Grapevine Vodka Bar has been kept strictly under wraps until today but will officially open its doors at 8pm then trade every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8pm until midnight or later if the demand is there.

Upstairs will continue with its real ale specials and live acoustic nights every couple of weeks.

“They have gone very well so far but we don’t want to saturate the market,” said Darren. “I just can’t believe where the time has gone since we opened but as the new venture will hopefully show it’s important to keep one step ahead of the competition.”

Special offers at The Grapevine include selected cask ales at £2 a pint from 6 to 8pm nightly and all night Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday plus but two glasses of house wine and get the rest of the bottle free from Sunday to Wednesday.
