Blackpool’s Viva! cabaret room is celebrating being voted the resort’s number one entertainments attraction on TripAdvisor with over 110 five star reviews.
“There were a few eyebrows raised when I decided to open up my own venue (and the biggest cabaret venue in town at that!) at a time when so many are closing their doors,” said Leye D Johns. “But now the whole team are celebrating a great seasonal run.
Leye, the venue’s front man and one of the Dudley Leisure Directors behind the project is full of praise for the former Mecca Bingo premises staff and team for the success so far.
“The response has been brilliant,” he said. “Looking at the feedback we get and online on review sites such as TripAdvisor we’re getting things right with the vast majority of our customers. Within three months of opening we have become the number one attraction for Blackpool and Lancashire on Trip Advisor with over 110 five star reviews – it really is amazing!”
Fellow director Phil Burrows, who also performs with Leye on stage as principal vocalist added: “We’ve kept re-investing in the venue – we think it will pay off in the long run. We’re not looking to bleed the place dry and get rich overnight but we want to create a venue everyone can enjoy and be here for years to come, so we want to get the place operating to its full potential.
“It is a long winter in Blackpool, but December is already looking amazing – we have bookings for the first quarter of next year and all our dates and pricing are done for 2013 which will be announced in a few days time. We will be taking a little break in January though… we’ll need it!’
It’s a hands on approach for Leye and the team as the next couple of weeks will see the team picking up the tools again and making some further improvements to the main show room – some new lighting is on the way and a new drinks waiter station for the floor staff to improve table drinks service.
“The hard work is paying off,” adds Martin Heywood, the third part of the venue’s ownership line-up. ‘We’ve done exactly what we set out to do – there were doubts thrown at us when we went for the licence that we weren’t experienced enough, or we would add to existing problems in the town – but I think we’ve proven ourselves to some extent and we look forward to opening up the other parts of the building and getting our function room into service – especially as we are the closest venue to the Festival House Wedding Chapel so we hope to welcome many newlyweds over the road next year to celebrate with us.
“I really think Blackpool has got a positive to shout about here now, it was an empty building for over six years and now it’s a great place over 1000 people a week are enjoying. We’re ready to push on and introduce more shows and events into 2013.”
The venue is open throughout weekends in November with Christmas Party nights starting on December 1 through to New Year’s Eve.
