Soul legends The Drifters return to the Grand Theatre, Blackpool, tomorrow – after more than a decade.
Fay Treadwell’s original The Drifters are one of the longest serving bands of all time – having sold to date over 214 million singles and 114 million albums across the world.
Since their sixties and seventies soul hey-day, the line up of the US band has undergone many changes with more than 60 different singers.
Some of the group’s biggest hits include classics such as Saturday Night at the Movies, There Goes My First Love, Under The Boardwalk, Can I Take You Home Little Girl, You’re More Than A Number in My Little Red Book, Love Games, Hello Happiness, On Broadway, Kissing In The Back Row and many more.
Prism Music Group is pleased to announce that The Drifters tour coincides with the release of the group’s Greatest Hits album The Drifters ‘Up On The Roof’ - released on Sony Music this week.
Billed as the ‘Icons’ tour, the current recording line up of The Drifters will perform the group’s greatest hits and new material featured on the new album, paying special homage to some of the most prestigious former recording artists of this group including icons Clyde McPhatter, Rudy Lewis, Ben E King, Bill Frederikse and Johnny Moore.
The Grand Theatre audience has been promised a dynamic non-stop show that combines classic songs, top-flight choreography and world-class musicians with some of the group’s newer material from recent releases.
Current Drifters line up member Michael Williams says: “We had a gruelling week of physical training and rehearsals for the forthcoming Icons Tour and we are very excited about going back on the road - expect a show packed with songs recorded by some of the greatest members of this line up – we also have some surprises in store – expect a great show!”
The Drifters are at the Grand Theatre on Thursday, at 7.30pm. All tickets £25, Concession £2 off. Box Office (01253) 290190.
