It’s second time unlucky for actress and dancer Jennifer Ellison who has had to drop out of a major Blackpool show for the second time.
Due to an incident with a falling piano at the Sunderland Empire last week, she has had to withdraw from the award winning production of Calendar Girls – which opens for a week’s run at the Opera House tonight – for the next two weeks to recuperate.
Four years ago after a recurring back injury, Jennifer had to abandon plans to headline at the same theatre in the hit musical Chicago.
The latest incident happened during a rehearsal at the Sunderland Empire last week when Jennifer and a fellow cast member tried to stop an on stage piano falling forward.
“Unfortunately Jennifer sustained a pulled shoulder muscle, a fractured wrist and a dislocated finger and was told she needed two weeks to recuperate,” a spokesman for the touring company said.
Deena Payne, best known as Viv Hope in Emmerdale, a role she played for 18 years making her the longest serving female cast member on the programme has stepped in to play Cora.
She’s also no stranger to Calendar Girls having previously played the role of Cora for 16 weeks.
Based on an inspiring true story this is a quirky, poignant and hilarious stage show.
Performances are nightly at 7.30pm with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday at 2.230pm.
Tickets from £10.
