Blackpool-based entertainer Joe Longthorne is to celebrate recently being awarded the MBE with a massive Gala Dinner & Charity Golf Day in his adopted home town.
“This will be my first fund raiser since the terrific award so I wanted to make sure it was on home territory as a way of thanking the people of Blackpool and the Fylde for their support and friendship over the years,” he said.
The Joe Longthorne Golf Classic and Gala Charity Dinner takes place on Wednesday, August 29, at Blackpool’s De Vere Village Hotel and will be raising funds for the Brian House Children’s Hospice.
“I want it to be a very high profile day but the emphasis will also be very much on having a fun time with friends and associates,” he added.
A host of celebrities and entertainers have been invited to join the occasion and an outdoor radio broadcast will take place during the proceedings which are set to commence at 1.30pm with a shotgun start. Bacon sandwiches and coffee will be served on arrival.
Each golf team of three will be joined by a celebrity and amongst those invited to attend are Roy Walker, Stan Boardman, Mick Miller, Bernie Flint and a host of sportsmen.
There will be prizes for the top three teams, the longest drive and nearest the pin.
Ladies and gentleman are welcome.
Sponsorship for each team is £345 which includes three tickets for the gala dinner. Tickets for the four course dinner without the golf are £45 each.
Entertainment after the dinner will include the full Joe Longthorne show.
A spokesman for the organisers (www.celebritydays.co.uk) said: “Because it’s such a high profile event everyone is a winner. Brian House will receive a substantial donation, the businesses involved will receive maximum exposure and everyone taking part will have a great day out – with a gala dinner and superb entertainment to follow.”
“We organise many events like this but this one is very special, particularly with it being Joe’s first major one since his award and with it being in his adopted home town.
“We’d love most of the sponsorship to come from Blackpool and the surrounding area because it’s an event for Blackpool in Blackpool.”
