CORONATION Street stars caused a stir as they searched the streets of South Shore for a lost child – again.

In what is becoming a family trait, young Amy Barlow – cousin of seven-year-old Simon, who went missing on North Pier last year – vanishes while on holiday.

Fans watched on as dad Steve McDonald, played by Simon Gregson, and jailbird mum Tracy Barlow, former Blackpool and The Fylde College student Kate Ford, searched the Promenade in a frenzy outside Pablo’s fish and chip shop yesterday.

Manager Lucjan Rojek, manager of Pablo’s on the Promenade, said: “The filming has been great for us.

“We had extras sitting in here while the crew took hours filming Tracy and Steve running outside the restaurant, first one way, then the other. Simon even came in for some chips.”

Donning a fur-hooded parka and baseball cap between shoots, tucking into chips, passers by could be forgiven for mistaking Simon for a fellow holidaymaker.

Last year’s storyline sparked controversy in the resort, with tourism experts questioning why the ITV show comes to Blackpool to lose children.

But Mr Rojek added: “It’s great for Blackpool.

“The filming creates a lot of interest, and for the businesses shown on TV, it’s great.”

The seaside trip, being filmed this week, sees Steve and Tracy take Amy away without telling Steve’s troubled wife Becky. Scenes at a Blackpool guest house were shot last week in Salford.

Steve spends hours searching the streets in his Weatherfield cab with the hunt eventually focusing on the Lucky Star amusement arcade.

A spokesman for Granada TV said: “We always love doing our filming in Blackpool. We have had some dramatic storylines in the resort and this will be no exception.”
