Tomorrow’s second Fylde Arts Midday Recital of the current season at Lytham Assembly Rooms features Nicholas Jones (cello) and Brenda Blewett (piano) performing works by Beethoven, Brahms & Britten.
Nicholas Jones is head of strings at Chetham’s School of Music and teaches cello at RNCM. He still pursues an international performing career as chamber musician, recitalist and soloist, performing regularly in the UK, Europe and USA.
From 2001 to 2006 he was a teacher/performing artist at the Bowdoin International Music Festival, USA, performing with colleagues from all over the world.
He also appeared in the Festival’s Winter Series in New York. Nicholas is currently in the middle of recording the Bach cello Suites.
He has given masterslasses in UK, Europe, USA and Russia.
Brenda Blewett (left) currently combines a concert career with her position as joint head of accompaniment at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester. She read music at Oxford University – specialising in 19th century music – and then continued at the Royal College of Music in London, where she studied piano with David Parkhouse and accompaniment with Robert Sutherland. Performances have also taken her to major venues and festivals throughout the UK, Europe and in Los Angeles and New York. She accompanies frequently in national and international competitions, notably the BBC Young Musician of the Year.
The programme begins at 2pm and includes works by Beethoven (Sonata in A Op 69), Brahms (Lieder) and Britten (Sonata in C Op 65). Admission is £7 (Fylde Arts Members £5).
