New audiences will be drawn into ballet as one of the UK’s leading companies returns to Blackpool.

Northern Ballet has announced its latest tour dates, bringing double bill Madame Butterfly and Perpetuum Mobile and children’s ballet Elves And The Shoemaker to the Grand Theatre.

The dates are part of a new programme from the Leeds-based company, with 850 performances planned in more than 40 cities during the next three years.

Northern Ballet’s chief executive Mark Skipper said: “We are committed to reaching as many people across the UK as possible, and remain dedicated to producing new and exciting work.

“As a northern-based company we receive far less funding than companies based in London, who tour considerably less. We have significantly increased our fund-raising targets over the next three years from £2m to £3m.

“This increase reflects our desire to continue to develop artistically and will help us to produce a wider range of exciting new full-length and shorter works that we can now tour more widely.”

The double bill plays Blackpool on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 26 and 27, at 7.30pm, with Elves And The Shoemaker on the latter at 12.30pm and 2.15pm. Call (01253) 290190 or visit www.blackpoolgrand.co.uk for tickets, on sale from Wednesday, November 19.
