Will Young is heading to Blackpool as hit West End show Cabaret embarks on a nationwide tour.
Ever since winning the inaugural series of Pop Idol in 2002, Will Young has been one of the UK’s most popular artists and holds the record for the fastest selling debut single in British chart history.
But Young has also enjoyed a successful acting career which saw him appear alongside Dame Judi Dench in the film Mrs Henderson Presents, and it is the combination of these talents which led to him starring in Cabaret.
The show, which comes to Blackpool’s Opera House from Tuesday, October 15 to Saturday, October 19, has been around for a while. It premiered on Broadway in 1966 and there was a renowned movie version with Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey. Cabaret has won a staggering number of stage and screen awards including eight Oscars, seven BAFTAs and 13 Tonys.
This new version has been produced by Rufus Norris, a multi-award winning theatre and opera director, whose debut feature film Broken opened the prestigious Cannes film festival in 2012.
For those not familiar with what Cabaret is all about, it does what it says on the tin really – featuring show-stopping choreography, dazzling costumes and some of the most iconic songs in musical theatre including ‘Money Makes the World Go Round’, ‘Two Ladies’ ‘Maybe This Time’ and of course ‘Cabaret’.
The production turns Weimar Berlin of 1931 into a sassy, sizzling haven of decadence. At its dark heart are the notorious Emcee (played by Young)and sassy Sally Bowles, who perform nightly at the infamous Kit Kat Klub.
News that the production is coming to the Opera House, is another boost for the Winter Gardens, which already has some terrific West End touring shows booked this year – starting with Bill Kenwright’s Save The Last Dance For Me on Monday, July 15.
Tickets for Cabaret are priced £19.50-£39.50 and are on sale at www.blackpoollive.com or 0844 856 1111.
