There were queues reaching the entrance of the Winter Gardens as people lined up to see the world’s largest indoor illumination extravaganza.
Scores of people piled into the resort’s latest attraction, Illuminasia, which opened to the public yesterday.
Already 1,000 visitors had wandered through the light experience as bosses opened up the doors for a trial run on Thursday.
And guests are in for a treat with this 4,000 square metre light show – the first new attraction to open in Blackpool for 25 years.
Wendy Harrison and Angela Logue, both of Blackpool, were among the first of its visitors yesterday.
Angela, 62, said: “It looks fabulous.
“We expected good things because it has been created by Chinese artists, and I think it’s really good.”
Wendy, 70, said she was interested in seeing the display after seeing a similar set up in Auckland, New Zealand.
She added: “I was looking forward to seeing how this compares. It’s really good.”
Dianne and Steve Wood were visiting Blackpool for the day from Preston and thought they would call in to the new attraction.
Dianne, 53, said: “We’d heard about it on the radio and we thought we’d pop in as we were passing.
“It’s lovely. We didn’t really know what to expect but we’d definitely recommend it to our friends.”
Karen Billington, 33, from Poulton, said she was impressed by the display.
“I can’t believe they’ve fitted all this into the Olympia,” she added.
