AN ICY Christmas wonderland is gearing up to transform Lytham Square next month.

The town centre’s popular ice rink will be back and open for business on Saturday, December 10 – and the Russian skating duo behind the venture want the whole family to get involved.

Alexei Kislitsyn and Natalia Pestova, who have starred in the Pleasure Beach’s Hot Ice Show, are set to bring skating with Santa sessions to the Wonder Ice rink, as well as hosting displays by the Blackpool Ice Twirlers and dancers from their own ice classes.

The rink will be from 11am until late every day – except for Christmas Day – until January 2, with masterclasses with Alexei and Natalia available every Monday morning.

Alexei said: “We want to invite local schools to join us too.

“Lots of children have become interested in skating after watching Dancing on Ice on TV and this is a perfect opportunity for them to have a go.”

The Wonder Ice rink is synthetic, but Natalia insisted it is as good as the real thing.

She added: “We have skated professionally on it many times in shows with John Barrowman, and in the Royal Variety performance, so we can vouch for its qualities.

“Alexei recently skated on it on the roof of Harrods in London! It is incredible stuff.”

To encourage youngsters to head out on to the ice the couple will be offering special school rates on the ice, and all school sessions will include 15-minutes of instruction by a qualified coach.

Regular 45-minute skating sessions cost £6 adults and £4.50 children, including skate hire, with two people skating for the price of one from December 12-15.
