Two stars of Strictly Come Dancing are set to dance into the spiritual home of ballroom for a summer season show.

The Gazette can today reveal that Katya Virshilas and Jared Murillo will star in the Grand Theatre’s 2015 summer production, Puttin’ On The Ritz.

The box-office hit promises to be a spectacular celebration of the music from Hollywood’s Golden era, featuring music by legendary composers, Cole Porter, George Gershwin and Irving Berlin.

Producer David King said: “Blackpool is in for a treat this summer.”

The cast of West End performers recreate classic songs of the era live, with slick harmonies, glamorous costumes and impeccable ballroom dancing skills, led by the Strictly duo.

Katya joined the BBC prime time show in 2009, partnering cricketer Phil Tufnell

She was a favourite with viewers again as the professional partner of rugby star Gavin Henson in the 2010 series of Strictly, reaching the semi-finals.

Jared joined the show for one year only, in series eight, dancing with celebrity partner Tina O’Brien, the former Coronation Street actress.

Songs the pair will dance to include Cheek to Cheek, Alexander’s Rag Time Band, Birth of the Blues, Swanee, Night and Day, I Got Rhythm, Easter Parade, and its namesake, Puttin’ On The Ritz.

Mr King added: “I am thrilled to bring Puttin’ On The Ritz to the Grand.

“The show is a wonderful celebration of the music of Geroge Gerswhin, Cole Porter and Irvin Berlin.

“It is a fabulous song and dance extravaganza.”

The production has already toured the UK and broken box office records.

The theatre’s chief executive Ruth Eastwood said: “We are delighted to be welcoming back Spirit Productions, the company who brought us the popular New Jersey Nights last year, which delighted visitors and locals alike.

“This really is a show for all ages - a feel-good night out.”

To introduce younger audiences to such a production, the theatre is offering half price tickets for all under 16s.

Tickets start at £17, with group and concessions prices available.

They go on sale this morning at 10am.
