The full line-up of dances and music for Saturday night’s Strictly extravaganza, live from The Tower Ballroom Blackpool, has been revealed.
From 7pm the fabulous ballroom will be broadcast to the nation with the remaining nine couples taking to the floor.
After teasers on contestants’ and dancers’ Twitter feeds as well as some announcements on the BBC 2 It Takes Two nightly show, the dances have all been confirmed.
There’s a real variety on offer, with the only doubled-up dance the American smooth, which will be performed by both EastEnders actor Jake Wood and wildlife presenter Steve Backshall, with their professional partners Janette Manrara and Ola Jordan.
“Everything at Blackpool has to be a step up and a bit bigger and more dramatic and more impressive, so we are definitely looking for the wow factor,” said Steve, who has already performed some dazzling lifts.
“Everyone from the start talks about Blackpool as a significant milestone in the run and is a massive event. It’s like everyone going off on band tour.
“It all sounds intimidating and a lot to live up to, but a privilege and opportunity to be on the hallowed turf – it’s like Old Trafford.
“I’m delighted to get this far and to be going to Blackpool. It’s a brilliant fun place and going as part of the Strictly extravaganza will be so memorable.”
Also set for the showcase is Mark Wright, dancing a charleston to Yolanda Be Cool’s dance track We No Speak Americano with partner Karen Hauer. The ex-The Only Way Is Essex star-turned-radio DJ is looking forward to his night on the Golden Mile.
“Karen has been telling me how everyone in the world wants to go there,” he said. “The Charleston is a showstopper and you only get to Blackpool once so it will be a dream come true and amazing. And I’m looking forward to having a drink after the show and having some fun while we’re there.
“I’m not a natural dancer so to make it to Blackpool is like making the final. Everything is down to Karen, she’s so patient and I couldn’t have asked for a better partner.
“If someone had said I would make Blackpool I would have said ‘No way’.”
