Dan Whiston had a right royal knees-up when he was invited to take tea with the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

The former Hot Ice star was sent a special invitation to one of the royal garden parties, along with some of the other stars of Dancing on Ice – including Jayne Torvill, Karen Barber and his partner from the last series of the hit ITV1 show, Jennifer Ellison.

Dan said he had a “wonderful day” and it had been a “once in a lifetime occasion”.

He added: “It was such a lovely day. The weather was perfect, it was really sunny, really warm.

“Karen and I had to keep pinching ourselves as it felt so surreal. Getting invited was a real surprise, I can only imagine the Queen must be a fan of Dancing on Ice.

“The whole day will really be a very treasured memory for me. I’m even getting the invitation framed for the mantelpiece!”

Dan, who performed for the Queen when he took part in the Royal Variety Performance in 2010, said he was most overwhelmed by some of the people he met at the party – although he did not get to speak to the Queen herself.

He added: “We were surrounded by so many medals, there were a lot of war veterans and heroes – it felt like such an honour to be there with them and get chance to talk to them.

“And they were asking to have their pictures taken with us! That was lovely and really flattering.

“It was such an amazing experience.

“Even just getting the chance to see the grounds of Buckingham Palace was fantastic.”
