FYLDE skating star Dan Whiston will be hoping to go for gold after being paired with Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle in the new series of Dancing On Ice.

Dan, who has twice won the ITV show which returns to the screens on January 6, has been training with 27-year-old Beth for six weeks.

Beth, who won a bronze medal at the London Olympics, was one of the Team GB stars who switched on this year’s Illuminations.

Other stars in this season’s show include blonde former Baywatch actress Pamela Anderson. Dan said: “I’m very excited about the new show.

“Beth has been doing really well in training.

“She has a great mind-set and is really focused on what she is doing. She has the bendiest legs I have ever known!

“But while gymnastics is all about straight legs, ice skating is more about softer knees so we have had to reprogramme some of the stuff she has been doing for the last 20 years.

“She is really good fun to have around so we have been having a great time in training.

“Beth loved coming to Blackpool for the Illuminations switch-on and she used to come here as a child, so we need everyone from Blackpool to support us during this year’s show.”

Dan, who lives in Poulton, and has formely starred in the Hot Ice Show at the Pleasure Beach, lifted the Dancing On Ice Crown most recently in 2010, when he partnered Bispham actress Hayley Tamaddon.

Last year he reached the semi-final with former Brookside star Jennifer Ellison.

He and Beth have been training at ice rinks in Manchester and Teesside.

Dan added: “Beth is a tough girl and when she falls she just gets back up, dusts herself off and carries on – and that’s the kind of attitude you need.”
