Blackpool actress-turned-celebrity ice skater extraordinaire Hayley Tamaddon today spoke of her joy at rejoining hit show Dancing On Ice.
The star, best known for her role as Delilah Dingle in Emmerdale, is returning to the ITV skating series as it signs off with its ninth and final series in January.
The contestants taking part are made up of former winners and viewers’ favourites from the past eight series.
The celebrity skaters competing alongside Hayley include former winner and X Factor star Ray Quinn, Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes and comedian Joe Pasquale.
The former Montgomery High School pupil said: “It’s amazing! The first time around was pretty special so to be asked back is amazing. I’m very excited. I found out a long time ago, I’ve had to keep it a secret and it’s been hard.
“I’m just glad I can tell everyone now and fill them in with all the gossip.”
Hayley, 36, won the show in 2010 with a convincing 82 per cent of the public vote.
She said: “I remember thinking ‘82 per cent, how did that happen?’, it was mindblowing.
“I understand that at a time like this when money’s tight, to pick up the phone and vote is just fantastic. I just hope they can do it again.”
She added: “Last time around I felt I had the whole of the Fylde coast behind me, it was brilliant. Everyone from Blackpool was so supportive. I just hope they can do it for me one more time because I’ll certainly need it.”
Hayley hasn’t had much time to skate since completing the Dancing On Ice tour in 2011 but insists ‘it’s all about confidence’. She added: “I have gone a bit rusty. It’s so hard to keep up with especially when doing other work and not having a skating partner available.
“When I did the show itself, it was in 2010 and that was almost four years ago so I’ve forgotten a lot of stuff. But it’s just like getting back on the bike.”
She wowed audiences with professional skating partner Daniel Whiston, from Poulton. When asked if they will be paired together again, the actress remained tight-lipped but insisted that she is happy with who she’s been given.
She added: “I’m not allowed to say so I’ll just say that I’m very happy with my partner and I think everyone else will be too.”
It’s been an exciting few weeks for Hayley as she also recently joined the cast of Coronation Street. She will be playing Andrea, a friend of Steve McDonald, and will be on our screens on the soap later this year.
Speaking of her role in the soap, she said: “To be in Corrie is a dream, its the nation’s favourite. The people I work with are delightful and the writing is fantastic. I laugh out loud when I watch it and I laugh out loud when I read the script.
“I’m having a ball.”
