A MARATHON weekend of dancing kicks off at the Empress Ballroom today.
Champions of Tomorrow does what it says on the tin - it aims to showcase the best amateur dancers in the country who are set to go on to achieve big things.
The two-day event takes place throughout Saturday and Sunday. Doors open at 8am and the dancing continues until 11pm.
It is the brainchild of Nigel and Janice Horrocks, who run NJH Dance Promotions.
The biggest show they stage, it is now in its 28th year and they have spent the last six months making sure everything is in place for this weekend.
“It will be a really good event,” said Mr Horrocks. “We will have ballroom and Latin dancers, and classic sequence dancers on the Sunday.
“Over the two days there will more than 800 couples competing from all over the world and there are all sorts of different age groups and sections.
“I can promise anyone who comes to watch that it will be a really great day. It is fantastic we can put this on at the Empress because it really is the home of ballroom dancing.”
Tickets are £20 Saturday and £15 on Sunday.
