The date for the Blackpool heat of Britain’s Got Talent auditions has finally been revealed – and audience tickets are now up for grabs.
The prime-time ITV talent search show is hoping Blackpool will wow judges Simon Cowell, singer and songwriter Alesha Dixon, comedian David Walliams and returning judge Amanda Holden when they come back to the Opera House at the Winter Gardens in the resort on Tuesday, January 24.
Bernie Reilly, 73, of Bishopsgate, Blackpool, who got through to the third round of auditions in 2009, said he is hoping to return to prove Blackpool is bursting with talent.
The Motown mover and grandfather-of-12, told The Gazette: “Blackpool is the place to hold auditions, it’s full of variety. It’s brilliant they are holding a heat here.
“It’s exciting for the town.”
A colourful carnival parade is also being organised for the town on January 18.
Britain’s Got Talent last held televised auditions in Blackpool in 2008 - but Piers Morgan seemed less than impressed with the acts, describing them as a “chuck yourself off the end of the pier” performers.
But Cowell was, at least, impressed by the audience and said it was the best they had ever had.
Applications for audience tickets are now being taken through website www.applausestore.com. There will be two recordings on the day at 1pm and 6pm and all applicants must be 16 years or over to be part of the audience.
Entertainments manager for the Winter Gardens, Donna Molyneux, said: “Following discussions with the producers of Britain’s Got Talent we are delighted to welcome them back to Blackpool and The Opera House.
“The programme’s popularity with the public and media interest will be a great opportunity to promote the venue and the town as a whole.”
Tickets will not be available from the venue itself or from any other source. For more details log on to www.applausestore.com.
