A Blackpool mum and daughter team have decided to beat the recession blues and launch their own spray tan and beauty accessories boutique.
Jo Kearns and Molly McDonnell decided to team up after Jo had completed her business degree and daughter Molly had struggled for a year to find full time employment.
Molly left college in 2012 after training in health and beauty and Jo originally studied fashion at University and worked as a teaching assistant while study business.
She said: “We decided we didn’t want to sit around and wait for opportunities to come knocking and racked our brains for a new business venture that would use both of our skills. We decided that even in a recession people want to feel good about themselves and hope that Molly & Jo will provide this by offering spray tans (the healthy way to tan) and lovely retail products.
“We wanted to create a relaxed friendly feel to our salon, not clinical, and we have made it feel more like someone’s lounge or bedroom.
“Its a lovely combination of the spray tanning, beautiful accessories, beauty products and gifts so you can get your tan plus a clutch bag for going out that night, some jewellery and eyelashes.
“We have both done nail courses and we are going to introduce nails once we have established the business, within the next six months.”
Jo said spray tanning has become increasingly popular and has come along way in recent years.
New products now do not require the customer to keep the tan on over night before washing it off.
She said: “We have this rapid tan product now which I have tried out myself. It’s great if you need a tan in a hurry. You put it on for two to four hours, two for a light tan and four for a deeper tan, and then wash it off. So you can get one done for a night out.”
They also do special tans for brides and grooms.
