They are the stars of Blackpool Dungeon’s latest ad campaign, and despite their unusual looks, they’ve received some unexpected attention – from modelling agencies.
Earlier this month it emerged Eurovision Song contest winner Conchita Wurst, aka ‘The Bearded Lady’, had been snapped up for modelling contracts with Jean Paul Gautier.
Now the two bearded ‘ladies’ at The Tower Dungeons are set to follow in Conchita’s footsteps after being scouted themselves.
They were first approached by a talent scout while out and about on the streets of Blackpool promoting the well-known attraction.
Tower bosses claim a flurry of other interest has quickly followed.
Kate Shane, from The Blackpool Tower Dungeon, said: “We knew our bearded ladies would turn a few heads this summer but we did not for one minute think that they would receive this kind of interest.
“We have been told by a number of agencies that there is a trend at the moment for unusual looking models and beards are experiencing a bit of a renaissance.
“However, that world is a far cry form the Dungeon – or at least it used to be!”
The story has certainly created much hype at The Dungeons and although the Carnivale characters are shocked by what has happened, they can’t hide their excitement, saying they are currently weighing up the approaches.
Bella Bristle, one of the bearded ladies, said: “It was a dream come true to get the job at the Tower Dungeon but to now be talking to modelling jobs seems surreal.
“I love the fact that unique and interesting looks are breaking into the fashion world and I’m excited to be part of it in my own little way.”
Blackpool’s very own bearded ladies might yet follow in Conchita’s famous footsteps and be gracing alternative fashion shoots any day.
