PUPILS had a scream when a published author visited their school for an afternoon.

Tommy Donbavand, author of the Scream Street series, visited his former neighbourhood of St Annes to share his latest book with students of Lytham St Annes Technology College.

Mr Donbavand was visiting the school to help encourage students to enjoy reading for pleasure and to use library facilities outside of class time.

The author shared his own reading and writing tips with youngsters, using an iPad activity to capture their imaginations.

Mr Donbavand said: “It was wonderful to be back in St.Annes after spending many years at the college.

“I hope I have helped to excite students and encourage them to become readers and writers, developing their own ideas.”

The former Blackpool and The Fylde College student spent some years performing in the West End before turning his attention to writing books.

Joe Dicken, a year 8 pupil, said: “It was good fun to have him come in. I really enjoy his books which are good and funny. Our teacher has been reading some of the short stories to us.”
