It usually just transmits the radio signals...
But for this week only, Blackpool’s famous Tower has become the home of radio programmes too.
Two presenters are calling the resort landmark their own, living inside it and broadcasting from it to raise money for charity.
Ged Mills and Hayley Kay, who present Radio Wave’s breakfast show, have been bedding down inside the Tower’s Bank Hey Street entrance since Monday.
And according to the pair, it hasn’t been all that easy.
Ged said: “It’s been interesting and we only got about three hours sleep on Monday night.
“There were a few bangs on the window from passers by, but everyone has been brilliant and so supportive.”
Hayley added: “Our lip-reading has improved and I do take it upon myself to tidy round so it’s beginning to feel like home.”
The duo have so far raised around £2,000 in aid of Fleetwood 10-year-old Chloe New, who suffers from spastic diplegia cerebral palsy and hopes to fly to America in order to have an operation which will allow her to walk unaided.
They will be staying in the Tower until Friday, completing a number of surprise challenges along the way at different venues within its confines.
Hayley said: “When we heard about Chloe’s story we thought, ‘We can do something here’. The Fylde coast is a really generous place and people have been great with donations.”
