Opera star Jane Irwin joins Blackpool Symphony Orchestra for a special Diamond Jubilee Proms Concert on Sunday at St. Paul’s Church in Marton.
Brought up in Thornton she studied at Lancaster University and the Royal Northern College of Music before embarking on a successful career as a mezzo soprano before moving into the soprano range in recent years.
Jane has graced opera houses and concert platforms across the world and recent engagements have taken her to Germany singing in Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde and work with Sir Mark Elder and Sir Simon Rattle.
Proud of her roots she is looking forward to singing with Blackpool Symphony Orchestra on Sunday.
“I’m really excited about singing on my home territory with Blackpool Symphony Orchestra,” she said. “It’s a great opportunity to sing for friends and family who have supported me in my career over the years. Performing in front of your home crowd is so special.
“I know that Blackpool Symphony Orchestra have a real commitment to playing its part in the wider community and I’m really pleased to be able to support them. I have a real admiration for the members who give up their own time to put together great concerts for audiences to enjoy. There’s a real enthusiasm and love for music in the orchestra which is great to see.”
This is the third year that Blackpool Symphony Orchestra has been invited to close the Summer Promenade series of concerts for St. Paul’s Church.
Tickets are available for £6 for adults with free entry for children from St. Paul’s Church (01253) 692047 and Pauline Wilson (01253) 767863.
