One of the world’s best loved fairy tales will come to life at Blackpool Grand Theatre in the magical opera Hansel and Gretel.
Co-Opera Co is returning to the Grand for one night on Friday February 1 next year.
After their successful visit to The Grand with La Boheme and The Marriage of Figaro in 2010 and last year with Carmen and The Magic Flute, the Co-Opera Co return with their critically acclaimed production.
Sung in David Pountney’s English translation and accompanied by the Co-Opera Co Orchestra conducted by Stephen Higgins, Hansel and Gretel captures the enchantment and delight of this dearly loved classic opera, written by the 19th century composer Engelbert Humperdinck.
Two hungry children driven from their home find themselves alone in the great dark forest where they happen upon a magical house made out of sweets.
From witches and fairies to ovens and broomsticks, together with an incredible score full of unforgettable tunes, Hansel and Gretel has been a favourite for both adults and children alike for over a century.
Co-Opera Co’s new production, created by James Bonas, combines startling visual effects with incredible vocal talent bringing to life all the danger, delight and magic of this dearly loved opera for a new generation of opera-goers.
Co-Opera Co was founded in 2009 by soprano singer Kate Flowers and lighting designer Paul Need, The innovative opera company’s aim was to promote the welfare of professional opera singers.
Both Flowers and Need realised that the career paths of young singers entering the operatic profession are hampered by the lack of small-scale prestigious companies with which to work.
Co-Opera Co provides aspiring artists with the chance to work with, and learn from, some of the most highly-regarded singers, conductors, directors, actors and choreographers in the opera world today.
They also benefit from invaluable performance opportunities.
