There is a double does of the best in blues this month at Fleetwood Marine Hall.
The next Wyre Blues session takes place next Thursday, August 18, and features the return of young guitar prodigy Alex McKown (pictured) and his band.
“Alex last played here in December and made such a big impression that we just had to get him back,” says Wyre Blues founder Alan Pearson.
Alex was born in 1996 and first picked up the guitar when he was six. At eight he got an electric guitar for Christmas and quickly progressed, spending hours playing along to legends such as Eric Clapton and Angus Young.
The Alex McKown Band played their first gig in 2008 in Glossop. They went down a storm and he was hailed as a star of the future.
Alex guested with American blues guitarist Hamilton Loomis on his 2009 UK tour. Since then they clocked up an impressive number of gigs on the blues circuit including the Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival at Colne, Newark Blues Festival and Ramsbottom Blues Festival amongst many others.
Last March he performed two shows at the Zinc Blues Festival in Beauvais, France.
Taking inspiration form the likes of Joe Bonamassa, Walter Trout, Samuel C Lees and Matt Schofield he plays a blistering set of electric blues at its best.
The show starts at 9pm. Tickets are £3 from the box office on (01253) 887693.
The following week sees the return of another Marine Hall favourite. On Thursday August 24 the Sherman Robertson Band is back following his appearance at the opening night of the Fleetwoodstock Festival last year. Support act on this show comes from local funky rockers Monster Squad.
The show starts at 8pm and tickets are £15.
